A journey out of whiteness and reckoning with my Apartheid past. From South Africa to Taiwan to the streets of Hebron, a former residential school in Canada and a pilgrimage through the Southern United States.

I share 20 practices—20 Stations of Liberation—that I show up to in my recovery, from acknowledgement and facing the ugly truth, to becoming part of repair and restitution. It is a journey of inner transformation, liberation and essentially, Love.

One of the most difficult things is not to change society—but to change yourself.

Recovering Racists: Dismantling White Supremacy & Reclaiming Our Humanity (April 2022)

This book is a journey out of whiteness and reckoning with my place in the crime against humanity that was apartheid in South Africa. But we also know racism is not just a South African story. It was where I started, but I have also seen apartheid in so many places in our world, including in my own heart.

This journey has taken 30+ years and—of course—it continues.

Yes, this is a book to white people, but I hope it is for a different world. Whiteness has done so much harm across many centuries. Imagine us taking some time together, so we can do less harm.

My deepest hope is that this book will become part of repair and restitution in our world, including financially. (Subscribe to my newsletter to hear the latest news on that.)

O, how I long for a different world for everyone. It’s time. I hope you will join me on this journey. (Available April 12, 2022 via Brazos Press.)
