WORKSHOP: Write Your Race Card Story

We can say so much in just six words.

In 2010, American journalist Michele Norris created The Race Card Project, creating a space where people share their ideas on race and racial identity. Since then, she’s collected more than 500,000 personal narratives, from all 50 US states and 96 countries. In 2013, the Race Card Project won the prestigious Peabody Award for “excellence in electronic communications for turning a pejorative phrase into a productive dialogue on a difficult topic.”

Join me on Sunday, March 16 at 10am PST/ 1pm EST (7pm in Cape Town) to write your Race Card Story. Over the years, as I’ve shared my story in workshops and even at a local high school, I have invited participants and students to write their own Race Card Stories. One by one, as they shared, I was deeply moved by the courage, vulnerability and authenticity I saw. It opened up candid and insightful conversations around racial identity and racism.

As a White woman, writing my Race Card Story has helped me name my place in the human story.

As a writer, I love the exercise's simplicity. It will be my honor to guide us through this sacred exercise.

Cost:

The suggested price is US$50. This is a fundraiser, so any amount that you would like to give to buying the plane ticket would be amazing.

I can’t wait to be together on Sunday.
