I love Archbishop Tutu. He is part of the unveiling of my South Africa. He helped lead my nation into Freedom.
Now he is appealing, with Richard Branson’s “The Elders,” to end discrimination against women. Equality is so the next frontier, the next veil that has to be lifted. For everyone. Everywhere.
Please watch this short appeal by Bishop Tutu here.
Then Tsering Namgyal, a former colleague at the Taiwan News, posted a quote on his Facebook, which sounds a lot like a prayer to me:
May the slander, harm
And all forms of abuse
That anyone should direct towards me
Act as a cause of their enlightenment.
– Shantideva, 8th Century
OK. I am turning it into a prayer for women to the God of Heaven and Earth, with apologies to Shantideva:
May the slander, harm
And all forms of abuse
That anyone have or ever will direct towards women
Act as a cause of their enlightenment and freedom.
How powerful if every negative, hurtful piece could become part of the Tipping Point towards change for women on the earth. Amen.
